Bobsleigh: Kripps and Stones slide to double medal weekend in Königssee

Justin Kripps and Cam Stones won their second two-man bobsleigh medal of the World Cup season on Saturday, and on Sunday, the pair alongside Ben Coakwell and Ryan Sommer won bronze in the four-man event in Königssee, Germany.

Justin Kripps and Cam Stones had a combined two-run time of one minute and 39.17 seconds, 0.51 seconds behind German winners Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis. Rounding out the podium was another German team, Nico Walther and Malte Schwenzfeier, who were only 0.02 seconds behind the Canadians.

On Sunday, Kripps, Stones, Ryan Sommer, and Ben Coakwell earned bronze in the four-man event. Their two-run time of one minute 37.29 seconds was just short of Germany’s Francesco Friedrich (1:37.03) and Johannes Lochner (1:37.13).

Team Kripps is now third in World Cup standings with Friedrich and Lochner in the lead.

Kripps and Stones’ first medal came in Lake Placid, where they won bronze. That same weekend, Kripps also won bronze with Ben Coakwell.

Christine De Bruin and Kristen Bujnowski were just off the podium for two-woman bobsleigh, finishing in fourth place.

The next stop for the BMW IBSF World Cup is next weekend in St. Moritz.
