Justin Dorey leads Canadian ski halfpipe sweep in Calgary
It was an all maple podium today led by Vernon-native Justin Dorey who won the men’s ski halfpipe FIS World Cup held at Canada Olympic Park.
The 25-year-old laid down an 87.20 ahead of teammate and the day’s top qualifier Noah Bowman, who scored 84.40 as well as third place Matt Margetts who scored 82.60.
According to the FIS website, temperatures in Calgary were unseasonably warm the day before and Thursday’s overnight snow created tricky conditions.
With Olympic spots on the line, the Calgary World Cup is a big deal for the Canadian team, ““We have a lot of talent on the pipe team right now. We got top four today, so going into the Games we feel pretty confident. Hopefully we can get three, maybe four of our guys into the Games,” said Dorey in a FIS release.
He was referencing Whistler’s Simon D’Artois, who ended up in 5th spot.
