Canada set a new Olympic record and added to the silverware collection on Day 10 of the Sochi Winter Games. Canada’s ice dance stars Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won Silver in the Figure Skating competition! Meanwhile, Team Jennifer Jones (9-0) has become the 1st Women’s Curling Team to go undefeated in round robin play in Olympic history! With 15 medals (4 Gold, 7 Silver, 4 Bronze) Canada is now ranked 8th in the overall medal standings.
In this, their last Olympics together, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skated to Ella Fitzgerald’s Dream a Little Dream of Me in Sunday night’s short program with one of their best performances ever finishing 2nd with 76.33 points. Virtue and Moir performed a memorable free dance on Monday to a near perfect score of 114.66 earning them Silver. Although only enjoyed for a few minutes, Virtue and Moir’s score was a new Olympic record until the USA pair Davis / White broke that record and took home the Gold medal. Teammates Kaitlyn Weaver / Andrew Poje finished 7th (169.11) and Alexandra Paul / Mitchell Islam 18th (138.70).
In their last round robin curling match, Team Jennifer Jones dominated Korea by the score of 9-4 in just 9 ends which led to the new 9-0 undefeated Olympic record. Both Team Jones will face Great Britain and Men’s Team Brad Jacobs will face China in their semi-finals on Wednesday. Women’s Hockey defeated Switzerland 3-1 in the Semifinals with Natalie Spooner scoring 2 goals and will face arch rival Team USA in the Gold medal game Thursday morning.
