Eugenie Bouchard wins first WTA title at Nuremberg Cup

Westmount’s Eugenie Bouchard has won her first WTA title by beating Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The 20-year-old Bouchard has been close all season, making three semis, but got the job done today in only her second-ever WTA final. She is the first Canadian to win a WTA event since Aleksandra Wozniak in 2008.

The win is a good sign for Bouchard who will move on to play the French Open in the coming days. She will also certainly rise above 19th when the WTA rankings are released on Monday.
