Six tennis players to represent Team Canada at TO2015
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this post included Sharon Fichman on the women’s tennis team. Fichman, later, had to drop out due to an injury.
Tennis Canada selected six athletes to defend its home court during the Pan Am Games. Tennis will run July 10 to 16 at the Canadian Tennis Centre.
The women’s team features Françoise Abanda, Gabriela Dabrowski and Carol Zhao who will complete in the women’s singles tournament.
Dabrowski, ranked second in Canada in singles and Zhao, currently number two in NCAA Division I singles will team up for the women’s doubles event.
On the men’s side Philip Bester, Peter Polansky, and Brayden Schnur will represent Canada. Polansky holds the highest-career ranking of the trio at world no. 122, while Schnur is currently a top-ranked NCAA Division 1 player. Bester and Schnur will also team up in the men’s doubles tournament.
Additionally, Dabrowski and Bester will join forces to compete in the mixed doubles tournament.
The Pan Am tennis team will be aiming to earn a spot on the podium for the first time since 1999 when Renata Kolbovic and Aneta Soukup won a women’s doubles bronze medal in Winnipeg.
