Kyle Jones captures World Cup silver to end rocky 2015 season
2012 Olympian Kyle Jones placed second at a Triathlon World Cup in Cozumel, Mexico on Sunday to end the 2015 season.
The 30-year-old has endured injury through much of the year, “I’m very happy with the result today,” said Jones, “I knew I was capable of a performance like that, and to go out and deliver it felt great. I’ve had some setbacks this year but through it all I’ve always kept my head down and continued to move forward.”
It is his third-career World Cup medal.
The Oakville, Ontario resident completed the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike, and five-kilometre run in 55 minutes and 14 seconds. South Africa’s Richard Murray won the race with a time of 55:03, while Hungary’s Gábor Faldum was one-second behind Jones in 55:15.

Jones topped a bunched chase pack to win the silver medal. Only seven-seconds separated second through eighth-place. The Canadian will take home 6,000 USD prize money for his efforts.

“This result is a great confidence booster and will also give my ranking, which took a big bit (sic) through the injuries, a nice boost,” commented Jones.
Kingston’s Alexander Hinton finished 64th.
There were three Canadians in the women’s race; Dominika Jamnicky was 25th-place, Calgary’s Alex Coates was 29th, and Emy Legault, of Ile Perrot, Que., placed 55th. Japan’s Ai Ueda won the women’s title with a time of 59:09.
