Henderson second in final Olympic golf rankings
The final Olympic golf rankings were released on Monday with Canadian Brooke Henderson sitting in second on the women’s side.
Last month, Henderson became the first Canadian to win a LPGA major since 1968, claiming the Women’s PGA Championship in a playoff over world N0. 1 Lydia Ko. The 18-year-old also won the Portland Classic earlier this year and has finished in the top-10 at numerous other events in 2016.
While the Smiths Falls, Ontario native had a tough US Women’s Open last weekend, she has called next month’s Olympic Games “an opportunity of a lifetime.”

The final Olympic golf rankings feature 120 players – 60 men and 60 women. The two-year qualification process began on July 14, 2014 and ended on Sunday with the completion of the US Women’s Open. The 120 players are “now eligible to be entered by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in accordance with the qualification criteria,” according to the International Golf Federation.
Along with Henderson, Alena Sharp cracked the women’s list, placing 31st. The 35-year-old is coming off her best career showing at a LPGA major, finishing 21st at last weekend’s US Open.

On the men’s side, David Hearn (36th) and Graham DeLaet (41st) made the final rankings.

Official nominations for Team Canada’s Rio 2016 golf team will be made later this month.
Golf, which will appear in the Games for the first time in 112 years, will take place at Rio’s Olympic Golf Course. The men’s tournament will be held August 11-14 while the women’s will take place August 17-20.
