Rio 2016 Day 8: Results and fan reactions

Day 8 of the Rio2016 Olympic Games brings one more rowing final, Ryan Cochrane’s anticipated 1500m swim and the last swim for Penny Oleksiak. Fans and athletes have taken to social media to support #TeamCanada

After a record number of medals on day 7, Team Canada charges ahead to another jam packed day.

Athletics – Bronze for Brianne Theisen-Eaton

Track cycling – Bronze for team pursuit

Ryan Cochrane won 6th in the 1500m race.

Indoor Volleyball – CAN vs Mexico

Canada beat Mexico in straight sets 3-0.

Andre DeGrasse ran 10.04 and won his heat, qualifying to the next round of 100m races. Akeem Haynes and Aaron Brown did not advance.

With two teams advancing to the round of 16, Canada’s Pavan/Bansley found themselves up against Canada’s Valjas/Broder. Pavan/Bansley won and will be moving to the quarterfinals.

Track cycling

Canada has qualified for the bronze medal match against New Zealand.

Athletics

Genevieve Lalonde broke a Canadian record and will be in the final for 3000m steeplechase.

Rowing

Women’s eight has placed 5th overall in the finals.

Sailing

Rafuse/Boyd are currently sitting in first after two races.
