Luge: Canada prepares to slide into the World Cup season
Luge Canada’s athletes will kick off the FIL World Cup season, with the circuit’s first stop in Germany on Saturday.
This year’s World Cup tour begins where the 2015-16 season ended, on the ice track in Winterberg. The last time Canadians speed down that track Arianne Jones, Mitch Malyk, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith found themselves celebrating atop the relay podium.
This season Canada’s top luge athletes will be back in action looking to build on their successes of last season. Malyk, Walker and Snith landed on three international relay podiums, with different female sliders at each appearance. Three-time Olympian Alex Gough joined the trio for a bronze medal performance at the FIL World Luge Championships.
The first World Cup competition will feature Canadians Malyk, Gough, Walker, Snith, Sam Edney, Reid Watts and Kim McRae. After Winterberg the circuit will continue to Lake Placid, before coming to Whistler where the Canadians can cheer on the nation’s luge team at home.
