Nine athletes nominated to Team Canada’s Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games freestyle ski team
VANCOUVER (December 22, 2023) – Freestyle Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee have announced Canada’s freestyle skiing team selected to compete at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
The Team Canada freestyle skiing team for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is:
Athletes
Quincy Barr (Calgary, Alta.) – Men’s Halfpipe
Charlie Beatty (Horseshoe Valley, Ont.) – Men’s Slopestyle / Big Air
Citrine Boychuk (Sherwood Park, Alta.) – Women’s Dual Moguls
Gabrielle Dinn (Kamloops, B.C. ) – Women’s Slopestyle / Big Air
Bradley Koehler (Quebec, Que.) – Men’s Dual Moguls
Flavie Lamontagne (Quebec, Que.) – Women’s Dual Moguls
Matthew Lepine (Ottawa, Ont.) – Men’s Slopestyle / Big Air
Trent Morozumi (Calgary, Alta.) – Men’s Halfpipe
Jeremy Sauvageau (Montreal, Que.) – Men’s Dual Moguls
The athletes were selected for Team Canada based on their domestic ranking among age-eligible athletes throughout a number of various eligible events. For slopestyle / big air, athletes were also required to complete a skill assessment phase.
Charlie Beatty, the reigning junior world champion in slopestyle was one of the youngest athletes to be selected to Freestyle Canada’s NextGen program when he was 14 years old. Now at 16, Beatty has been competing on the senior World Cup circuit, and hopes to be named to Team Canada’s Milano Cortina 2026 freestyle team.
“I am honoured and excited to be representing Canada at the 2024 Winter YOG. I am looking forward to a great experience and to learning a lot about what the Games have to offer,” said Beatty.
Another medallist at the 2023 FIS Junior World Ski Championships was Matthew Lepine, who at 15 years old, won the silver medal in the big air event. The youngest slopestyle competitor at the 2023 Canada Winter Games, Lepine finished fifth in the big air event.
“Coming off my second place finish at the Junior World Championships in New Zealand, I am thrilled to represent my county at these Youth Olympics with Charlie,” added Lepine. “Everyday I’m grateful for these opportunities. Yes, it’s about the competition, but it’s also about meeting athletes from all over the world. It’s just such an honour.”
In 2022, Flavie Lamontagne won the bronze medal in dual moguls at the senior level of Freestyle Canada’s National Championships, which she cites as her most proud sporting achievement to date. The Quebec native, who began skiing at 18-months, looks up to the Dufour-Lapointe sisters and Mikael Kingsbury as important role models in her freestyle ski career.
Team Canada has sent freestyle skiers to each of the three editions of the Winter Youth Olympic Games. At Lausanne 2020, Andrew Longino won the gold medal in men’s ski halfpipe, before being selected as Team Canada’s Closing Ceremony flag bearer.
“The Youth Olympic Games will provide a unique opportunity for these emerging athletes entering the high-performance stream of their sport,” said David Mirota Freestyle Canada’s Director of Athlete Development. “For many, this will be a first experience competing in Asia and provide the coaches and athletes with their first international multi-sport Games. Living this experience will be a major moment in their athletic and coaching journey. Freestyle Canada is excited to watch this group perform!”
Freestyle skiing will take place January 24 to 31 (Day 5 to 12) at the Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort and the Jeongseon High 1 Ski Resort.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are the world’s largest multi-sport event for high-performance young athletes aged 15 – 18. Gangwon 2024 will begin on January 19 and will end on February 1, 2024 and will feature 1900 athletes. Gangwon 2024 will be the fourth edition of the Winter YOG and the first in Asia. It will have a fully gender-balanced sporting program, and will feature seven sports, 15 disciplines, and a total of 81 events.
Prior to being named to Team Canada, all nominations are subject to approval by the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Team Selection Committee following its receipt of nominations by all National Sport Organisations.
