COC congratulates CBC/Radio-Canada on being awarded exclusive broadcast rights in Canada at PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020

TORONTO – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) congratulates CBC/Radio-Canada for having been awarded the exclusive broadcast rights in Canada for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang in 2018 and the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo in 2020.

“Canadians always come together each time our athletes compete internationally. Yesterday’s news is fantastic because it is crucial that Canadians from across our country continue to have the best access to a wide range of quality coverage during the Olympic Games to follow our great athletes’ performances,” said Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee. “CBC and Radio-Canada have done an incredible job at reaching out to our culturally diverse communities, giving fans of the Canadian Olympic Team options to watch and cheer on their Olympic heroes.”

In addition to Sochi 2014, CBC/Radio-Canada is also the rights holders to Olympic coverage in Canada for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“We are pleased that we will continue to work with the team at CBC/Radio-Canada who have demonstrated their support for the Olympic values over many years,” added Thomas Bach, President, International Olympic Committee.

In a release issued earlier today, Bach also announced that the financial support that CBC/Radio-Canada has committed to, as part of this new agreement, will be re-distributed by the IOC to support sport in Canada and around the world.

The agreement will see CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public radio and television broadcaster, acquiring rights across all broadcast platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television, internet and mobile phone in all languages. The agreement also includes the right to broadcast all editions of the Youth Olympic Games until 2020.
