Santiago 2023: Team Canada at the end of Day 3

SANTIAGO, CHILE (October 23, 2023) – Team Canada added three gold, nine silver and seven bronze to its medal total on Day 3 at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Here is what you need to know.

  • Diving
    • Caeli McKay (Calgary, Alta.) and Kate Miller (Ottawa, Ont.) captured silver in women’s synchronized 10m platform. This is the second medal of these Games for McKay, who won an individual bronze in the women’s 10m platform on Day 1.
  • Equestrian – Dressage
    • Paris Qualification: Team Canada won bronze in the equestrian team dressage event to secure a spot for Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

  • Gymnastics – Artistic
    • Félix Dolci (Laval, Que.) was crowned Pan Am Games champion in the men’s individual all-around event. He is Canada’s first gold medallist in that event at the Pan Am Games since 1963.
  • Rowing:
    • Abby Dent (Kenora, Ont.) and Olivia McMurray (Airdrie, Alta.) secured Team Canada’s first medal of Day 3, a silver in the coxless pairs. This is the first major-Games medal for the duo who are making their Pan Am Games debut here at Santiago 2023. 

    • Team Canada also captured bronze in the women’s quadruple sculls event.

  • Swimming:
    • A total of seven medals were won in the pool on Monday. 

    • For the second consecutive day, Maggie Mac Neil (London, Ont.) set a Pan Am Games record, this time in the women’s 100m freestyle (53.64 seconds). She now has five medals including three gold at Santiago 2023. 

    • It was a double podium for Sydney Pickrem (Halifax, N.S.) and Kelsey Wog (Winnipeg, Man.) who won gold and silver respectively in the women’s 200m breaststroke. 

    • Danielle Hanus (Newmarket, Ont) won bronze in the women’s 100m backstroke. 

    • On the men’s side, Brayden Taivassalo (Newmarket, Ont.) won silver in the 200m breaststroke. 

    • Blake Tierney (Saskatoon, Sask.) won bronze in the 100m backstroke. 

    • The mixed 4x100m medley relay team won bronze. 
  • Taekwondo:
    • Marc-Andre Bergeron (Quebec City, Que.) won bronze in the +80kg event. Santiago 2023 marked his return to the Pan Am Games for the first time since Toronto 2015 where he also won bronze in the same event. 
  • Water ski/wakeboard:
    • Canada won six medals in five water ski events.

    • On the women’s side, Neilly Ross (Orlando, Florida) captured silver in both the slalom and tricks events. Paige Rini (Winter Garden, Florida) earned bronze in both the jump and slalom events.

    • On the men’s side, Dorien Llewellyn (Innisfail, Alta.) won silvers in both the water ski jump and tricks events.
