Santiago 2023: Team Canada at the end of Day 6

SANTIAGO, CHILE (October 26, 2023) – Team Canada added one gold, one silver and five bronze to its medal total on Day 6 at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Here is what you need to know.

TEAM CANADA’S MEDAL COUNT: 

GOLD: 29 | SILVER: 24 | BRONZE: 30 | TOTAL: 83

DAY 5 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Boxing:
    • Both Tammara Thibeault (Shawinigan, Que.) and Wyatt Sanford (Kennetcook, N.S.) won their semifinal bouts to punch their own tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the women’s 75kg and men’s 63.5kg events, respectively. 
    • Four Canadian boxers captured bronze in their respective weight classes:
      • Junior Petanqui (Montreal, Que.), men’s 71kg
      • Bryan Colwell (Victoria, B.C.), men’s 92kg
      • Mckenzie Wright (Oakville, Ont.), women’s 50kg
      • Charlie Cavanagh (Saint John, N.B.), women’s 66kg 
  • Modern Pentathlon
    • Kelly Fitzsimmons (Calgary, Alta.) and Devan Wiebe (Vancouver, B.C.) won bronze in the women’s relay.
  • Racquetball
    • Coby Iwaasa (Lethbridge, Alta.) and Samuel Murray (Baie-Comeau, Que.) won silver in the men’s team final, adding to the silver they won in men’s doubles.
  • Shooting
    • Tugrul Ozer (Toronto, Ont.) secured the gold in the men’s 10m air pistol and qualified a quota spot for Canada in the event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His score of 240.5 in the final is a Pan American Games record.
