Jennifer Casson
Biography
Jenny Casson made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 where she competed in the lightweight women’s double sculls with Jill Moffatt. They advanced to the B final and finished 12th overall.
The duo secured their spot for Paris 2024 when they advanced to the A final at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Their fourth-place finish at that regatta was their best world championship result together. It followed their seventh-place finish at the 2022 World Championships.
In two World Rowing Cup appearances in 2024, Casson and Moffatt placed fifth in Varese, Italy and then fourth in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Casson’s first chance to represent Canada was at the 2013 CanAmMex Regatta. She joined the national team as a member of the lightweight double sculls for the U23 World Championships in both 2016 and 2017. After the U23 Worlds she was invited to make her senior team debut with the lightweight quad sculls crew at the 2017 World Rowing Championships, where she missed out on a podium spot by 0.13 seconds.
In 2018, Casson set a new personal best and lightweight world record on the ergometer at the Rowing Canada Aviron National Training Centre with a 2000m time of 6:53.80. That same season, she made her World Cup debut, partnering with Moffatt in the lightweight double sculls. Together they won the B Final in Belgrade, Serbia and finished fifth in the A final in Lucerne, Switzerland. With Moffatt racing in the single sculls at the 2018 World Championships, Casson teamed up with Katherine Haber in the lightweight double sculls to finish ninth.
In 2019, Casson competed in two more World Cups in the lightweight double sculls, the first with Ellen Gleadow and the second with Moffatt as they won the B final in Lucerne. Casson and Moffatt competed together at the 2019 World Championships where they finished eighth in the lightweight double sculls, which would later be enough to qualify Canada in the event for Tokyo 2020.
Casson rowed collegiately at the University of Tulsa from 2014 to 2017. She finished second three times with the varsity eight Hurricanes at the American Athletic Conference Championships and was twice named to the AAC First Team. In her senior year at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship, she claimed a second-place finish in the Lightweight 8+ Petite Final.
