Dan Hamhuis made his Olympic debut at Sochi 2014 where he helped Canada win the gold medal. He also represented Canada at six editions of the IIHF World Championship.

Hamhuis first wore the maple leaf internationally at the IIHF World Junior Championship, winning bronze in 2001 and silver in 2002. He went on to suit up at the IIHF World Championship for the first time in 2006. The following year, he helped Canada win world championship gold, followed by a pair of silvers in 2008 and 2009. Hamhuis returned to the IIHF World Championship in 2013 as Canada finished fifth. In 2015, he contributed to another world title.
