Harold Wright
Biography
At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Harold Wright made it as far as the semifinals of the 100m and 200m. He also finished fourth in the 4x100m relay alongside Percy Williams, James Brown and Birchall Pearson.
When his son Lee began playing field hockey, Wright went on to serve as president of the Canadian Field Hockey Association from 1966 to 1969. In 1969 he was elected president of the Canadian Olympic Association, a position he would hold until 1977. Wright was instrumental in Montreal’s successful bid to host the 1976 Olympic Games. From 1972 to 1977 he was director of the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada and helped bring the event to Edmonton in 1978. He was inducted to the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2003.
Wright’s son Lee went on to compete at the 1964 and 1976 Olympic Games while his grandson Anthony competed in field hockey at Beijing 2008.
