Biography

Jamal Murray was the youngest member of Canada’s silver medal-winning team at Toronto 2015. He scored 22 points in the semifinal overtime victory against the United States, which guaranteed Canada’s first ever medal in men’s basketball at the Pan American Games.

As a junior, Murray represented Canada at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, winning the bronze medal. The next year he was part of the Canadian team that finished sixth at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship.

Murray was a vital contributor to the Denver Nuggets NBA championship title in 2022-23 as he averaged 26.1 points per game in the playoffs. It was his first season back after an 18-month absence due to a torn ACL suffered in 2021.

Murray had been selected seventh overall by Denver in the 2016 NBA Draft. He was named to the 2017 NBA All-Rookie Second Team and earned MVP honours with Team World at the 2017 NBA Rising Stars Challenge.

In August 2020, Murray had a pair of 50-point games in the playoffs during the Nuggets’ run to the Western Conference Finals. In February 2021, he set his regular season career-high with 50 points in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming the first player ever to score 50+ points without attempting a free throw.

Murray played collegiately at the University of Kentucky in 2015-16 and was an All-American Third-Team, All-SEC First Team, and SEC All-Freshman Team honouree.
