Lucas Makowsky made his Olympic debut at Vancouver 2010 where he joined with Denny Morrison and Mathieu Giroux to win gold in the men’s team pursuit. The trio set an Olympic record in their quarter-final victory over the defending Olympic champions from Italy and then another Olympic record in their semifinal win over Norway. They narrowly defeated the United States in the final by 0.21 of a second to be the only Canadian men to reach the podium at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

At Sochi 2014, the Morrison-Makowsky-Giroux combination advanced to the bronze medal race but was defeated by the Polish team for a spot on a podium.

Makowsky made his World Cup debut in February 2007 and since then has enjoyed most of his individual success in the 1500m. He won bronze in the 1500m at the 2011 World Single Distances Championships and his lone individual World Cup medal, a silver, was also won in the 1500m in November 2009, leading up to the Olympic Winter Games.
