Mark Graham
Biography
Mark Graham competed at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games as a member of the 4x400m relay. He went on to earn an athletic scholarship from the University of Nebraska and later attended Kent State University. He also represented Canada at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria.
After retiring from athletics, Graham enlisted in the Canadian Forces and was based at CFB Petawawa. While serving as Private with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment, he was killed by “friendly fire” when his platoon was mistakenly attacked by an American aircraft on September 4, 2006. He was posthumously awarded the Sacrifice Medal.
Graham is buried at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa. In 2010, a park in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario was renamed Mark Anthony Graham Memorial Olympic Park.
