Maya Meschkuleit

Biography

Maya Meschkuleit is a more recent recruit to the Canadian women’s eight, making her debut in the big boat at the 2024 Rowing World Cup II in Lucerne, Switzerland where the crew rowed to the gold medal. 

She competed at the senior World Rowing Championships for the first time in 2023, racing to a sixth-place finish in the C final of the pair with Caileigh Filmer. It was just her third senior international regatta. She had made her World Rowing Cup debut in 2022 with a sixth-place finish in the pair in Lucerne. She had also competed at World Rowing Cup III in 2023, placing fourth in the B final of the women’s four.  

Meschkuleit’s first international competition was at the 2018 World Rowing Junior Championships where she finished fifth in the junior women’s pair. The following year, she finished just off the podium in fourth place in the junior women’s quadruple sculls. Moving up to the U23 World Championships in 2021, she finished fifth in the B final of the women’s quadruple sculls. That was followed by a fourth-place finish in the womens pair at the 2023 U23 Worlds. At her last U23 World Championships in 2023, she finished fifth in the women’s four.

Taking a break from university to prepare for Paris 2024, Meschkuleit has competed with the Yale University Bulldogs since 2019.

Outside Interests: Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Global Affairs at Yale University… Passionate about nuclear nonproliferation and has conducted research on global intelligence and security issues… Works as a tutor helping students prepare for the SAT and ACT test… Works as a social media coordinator for the Voice in Sport Foundation… Odds and Ends: Volunteered with TVO Kids for two summers and performed on-set duties for the children’s series “Doctor Cheddar”… Completed Grade 8 with the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano and violin…
