Niki Boyd

Biography

Niki Boyd was first introduced to the Women’s National Team Program during a 2011 trip to Cuba for Baseball Canada’s Girls Development Camp. The unforgettable experience sparked her dream of playing for Team Canada. A year later she was helping Canada win the bronze medal at the IBAF World Cup, batting .333 and scoring four runs. In 2013 she won the Jimmy Rattlesnake Award, given annually to a women’s national team player for her on-field accomplishments as well as her team spirit and leadership. Boyd had been a standout at that year’s Canada-Japan Series in Granby, Quebec for her defensive play. Boyd plays softball at Douglas College where she helped the Royals to a silver medal in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championship in 2014.

Family: Parents Alfred and Laurie Boyd… Older brothers Colin, Ryan, Gavin, and Nathan… Getting into the Sport: Started playing at age 6… With four older brothers she needed a nickname instead of her given name Veronika so she joined baseball… Outside Interests: Studying criminology at Douglass College… Works in Customer Service at Canadian Tire… Enjoys photography, Netflix binges, spending time with family, weight training, running, outdoor activities, and watching MLB… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “Live life like a 3-1 count”… Finds inspiration in her teammates who put in the work to be better on and off the diamond… Pregame routine includes good food, good tunes, and 30-minute nap… Always puts on equipment right to left… Collects pins from her travels…
