Patrick Arbour

Biography

Patrick Arbour won the national decathlon title in 2014 and 2015 after being second at the 2013 Canadian Championships and third in 2012. He set his personal best score of 7593 at the 2013 Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Arizona. That result qualified him for the 2013 Universiade, where he finished eighth. Arbour had finished fifth at the 2012 Pan American Combined Events Cup. He finished fourth in the decathlon at the 2009 Canada Games, just eight months after he had started doing the multi-event discipline.

Family: Parents Robert and Audrey… Older twin sisters Melanie and Chantal… Getting into the Sport: Began throwing in grade 3 and doing decathlons at age 21… Has wanted to compete for Team Canada since watching his javelin training partner qualify for the junior Pan Am championships… Outside Interests: Enjoys stand-up paddle boarding, walking his dog, spending time at his parents’ waterfront property… Works in retail and as a strength coach… Graduated from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences, Major in Criminology and Minor in Psychology… Odds and Ends: Role model is world record holder decathlete Ashton Eaton because he’s made combined events relevant again for a new generation… Has a lucky toonie donated by his four-year-old goddaughter, who gave him all the money she had when he was running a fundraising campaign… Tries to trade his singlets with his competitors… Favourite motto: “Why not me?”
