Ryan Cochrane

Biography

Ryan Cochrane made his Olympic debut at London 2012, competing alongside Hugues Fournel in the K-2 events. They advanced to the A final in their strength, the quick sprint K-2 200m. Earlier that summer they had won bronze in the event at the World Cup in Poznan, Poland. That came on the heels of their gold medal at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara. Cochrane first represented Canada internationally at the 2000 Junior Pan Am Championships. He competed at the World Junior Championships the following year before making his World Cup debut in 2004. Cochrane made his senior world championship debut in 2009 on home waters in Dartmouth. After finishing eighth in the K-2 200m at the 2013 World Championships with Richard Dober, Cochrane missed most of the 2014 season due to an injury. In 2015 he and Fournel reunited to finish ninth in the K-2 200m at the ICF World Championships. Added to the Olympic team just days before Rio 2016 began, Cochrane and Fournel made it to the A final of the K-2 200m for the second straight Games.
