Shay Colley

Biography

In her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, Shay Colley was in the starting five for each of Canada’s three games and scored 21 points as the team finished ninth. 

Colley was part of Canada’s fourth-place fnish at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, their best result at the competition since 1986. She was a member of Canada’s seventh-place team in her World Cup debut in 2018. That same year she also helped Canada to a fourth-place finish at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Colley played with the senior national team for the first time in 2017, suiting up for two exhibition series in Europe and China in preparation for the 2017 AmeriCup. At her first senior international tournament she averaged 5.5 points per game, helping Canada win their second consecutive AmeriCup gold. She earned her first tournament start at the 2019 AmeriCup, this time taking silver, and was a member of Canada’s fourth place and bronze medal teams at the AmeriCup in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

Colley debuted with Canada on the cadette national team in 2012 and led the squad in assists to help bring home a bronze medal from the U17 FIBA World Championship. A year later she finished seventh with the junior team at the U19 Worlds. In 2014 she led the junior team in points as they won silver at the U18 Americas Championship. Colley began her collegiate career at South Carolina before joining Michigan State as a redshirt sophomore in 2017. During her junior year in 2019 she led the team in rebounding and scored the game winning basket over Central Michigan in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Colley began her professional career in Hungary in 2021 and currently plays in France.
