Sloan MacKenzie

Biography

Sloan MacKenzie has become a consistent podium contender with her paddling partner Katie Vincent. They won bronze together in the women’s C-2 500m at the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, qualifying an Olympic spot for Canada in the event for Paris 2024. They followed up by winning C-2 500m gold at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. At the first ICF World Cup of 2024, they won silver in the C-2 500m. 

MacKenzie debuted at the senior ICF World Championships in 2022. She and Vincent finished sixth in the women’s C-2 500m in the home waters of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She also helped Canada win gold in the non-Olympic women’s C-4 500m event. 

MacKenzie competed at the ICF U23 World Championships in 2021 and 2022. Just before her second appearance, she won four gold medals at the 2022 Canada Games in the women’s C-1 200m, women’s C-2 200m, mixed C-2 500m, and women’s C-4 500m. 

A Little More About Sloan

Getting into the Sport: Started paddling at age 9 and began competing at age 11… Outside Interests: Enjoys wakesurfing and alpine skiing… Working towards a Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition Dietetics at Mount Saint Vincent University with plans to apply for medical school upon completion of her undergrad degree… Odds and Ends: Inspired by Laurence Vincent-Lapointe… Usually brings chocolate to competitions as a comfort food… Raises money for the Nova Scotia Chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation… Favourite motto: “What you’re doing when no one is watching is what separates a champion from everyone else”
