Dancevic, Wozniak Reach Semifinals at Eastbourne
With Wimbledon starting on Monday, Canada’s top singles tennis players are doing a lot more than warming up for it. Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blaineville, Que.) have enjoyed an excellent showing at the Eastbourne Championships.
The two Canadians both reached the semifinals following strong victories today. Wozniak (world No. 23) cruised past Russian Vera Dushevina 6-1, 6-0. Dancevic (world No. 126) had a far closer contest with Argentine Leonardo Mayer (No. 70), and came back to beat him 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5.
The tournament may propel Dancevic into the top-100 players in the world, as he prepares for his third career semifinal. Wozniak will play Danish star Caroline Wozniacki in the women’s semifinal.
Eastbourne is in East Sussex, about an hour-and-a-half drive south from Wimbledon.
