Government Announces Funding Boost
TORONTO – Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee made the following statement in recognition of the Harper Government’s generosity toward winter sport in Canada in the final year of preparation for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
“On behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee and the athletes, coaches and National Sport Federations that we serve, I would like to thank the Harper Government for its steadfast support of our Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Today’s announcement of $31 million dollars for 11 Winter NSFs means that more of our top athletes will be able to fine-tune their training well in advance of Sochi.”

The Government of Canada is providing more than $31 million to 11 winter National Sport Organizations through Sport Canada’s Sport Support Program. The 11 sports receiving funding are Alpine, Biathlon, Bobsleigh/Skeleton/Luge, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Ski Jumping, Snowboard and Speed Skating.
