Three Canadian boats win medals at World Rowing Cup II
The women’s eight won a silver and two men’s teams collected bronze medals at a world cup in Italy, one of three major regattas ahead of the World Rowing Championships.
Women’s Eight (8+) silver
The team of Ashley Brzozowicz, Susanne Grainger, Jennifer Martins, Natalie Mastracci, Cristy Nurse, Lisa Roman, Christine Roper, Lesley Thompson-Willie and Lauren Wilkinson completed the course in 6 minutes and 5.530 seconds for second-place. The United States was clear ahead for gold in 6 minutes and 3.270 seconds, with Great Britain finishing third in a time of 6 minutes and 8.660 seconds.

Men’s Four bronze (M4-)
Will Crothers, Kai Langerfeld, Conlin McCabe, and Tim Schrijver were just short of silver in a time of 5 minutes and 52.520 seconds which was four one-hundredths shy of Italy’s men. The United States were golden with their time of 5 minutes and 51.870 seconds.
Men’s Quadruple Sculls (M4x) bronze
Teammates Julien Bahain, Matthew Buie, Will Dean, and Rob Gibson gave up an early lead but managed to hold for bronze with a time of 5 minutes and 45.450 seconds. Great Britain eventually surpassed all finalists and won in a time of 5 minutes 43.130 seconds while the German boat won silver by sculling the 2000m distance in 5 minutes and 44.270 seconds.
Carling Zeeman, a finalist in the women’s single sculls (W1x), was fourth. In all, Canada sent nine boats to Varese, Italy. The final World Rowing Cup will take place in Lucerne, Switzerland July 10th to 12th, 2015.
