Canada’s TO2015 medal count grows following doping disqualifications
The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games have been over for four months, but Canada’s record-setting medal haul has gone up, it was learned on Thursday.
Two Pan Am medallists were officially disqualified due to doping infractions in events that involved Canadian athletes. One of the incidents upgraded a Canadian from bronze medal to silver, while in two other instances Team Canada athletes were bumped up to the podium.
At the pool, Peruvian Mauricio Fiol lost his silver medal in men’s 200-metre butterfly, sending Zack Chetrat of Swimming Canada to second place with his national record-setting performance. In a double bonus, Chetrat’s teammate Alec Page – who was fourth in the final race – now earns a TO2015 bronze medal in the butterfly.
In athletics, Canada earned another bronze medal through Rachel Hannah in women’s marathon. Leaving the medal table to Canada’s benefit is yet another Peru participant, Gladys Tejada, who had initially won the race on the streets of Toronto.

No Canadian athletes at TO2015 tested positive for banned substances.
The two new medals and Chetrat’s upgrade takes Canada up to 78 gold, 70 silver and 71 bronze for a total of 219 medals at TO2015.
