#2: Alex Bilodeau first gold for Canada
The Olympics are filled with unforgettable moments. Stories of teamwork, sportsmanship and triumph flood the news and capture our attention. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games were no different. From the opening ceremony to the golden goal, the home Winter Olympic Games were filled with some amazing moments. As the 10th anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Games approaches, we will be reliving the top 10 moments of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics through our eyes. This is #2.

The energy was palpable. Canada was hungry for a gold medal on home soil. After two home Olympic Games with neither producing a gold, Canadians could hardly wait.
They didn’t have to wait long. Alex Bilodeau gave them something to cheer about. Flying down the moguls at top speed, the crowd held their breath as he completed his run.

When he flew through the finish line, they erupted into cheers. Then his score came up, solidifying the gold.
Everyone was proud to be Canadian in that moment. To watch one of our athletes achieve his dreams and win the gold for Canada. Kicking off the most successful Olympic Winter Games on home soil.

But no one was as proud as his brother, Frederic. Frederic has cerebral palsy and is without a doubt his brother’s biggest fan.
If Canada wasn’t already cheering for Alex, a new wave erupted when he found his brother in the crowd to celebrate the win together.

Alex’s gold is still in our minds, even 10 years later. The excitement felt across the country was second to none. It made us feel like we were part of something bigger. The Vancouver 2010 Games brought us all together, showing us what Canada can do on the world stage. Not just in sports, but in friendship, inclusion, sportsmanship and more.

Ten years later, we still remember. And that is why we want to celebrate. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games were filled with stories of heartbreak, hard work and triumph. They brought us together as a nation and we want to celebrate the games on their 10th anniversary.
