Alexis Rudkovska

Biography

Alexis Rudkovska loves that fencing is a combination of endurance and explosive strength while also being mentally tough. She is always calculating what her next three moves will be and how her opponent will respond. Having competed internationally as a junior for her native Ukraine, Rudkovska has represented Canada at two Pan American Championships as well as the 2013 FIE World Championships. She posted her career-high year-end ranking of 143rd in 2012-13.

PERSONAL

Family: Parents Dmytro Rudkovskyy and Milla Rudkovska… Her parents brought her to Canada in 2011 for a chance at a better future… Getting into the Sport: Started fencing at age 16… Had never seen anything as strange, dynamic and awesome before… Fell in love with the sport known as “physical chess” from the first time she saw it and knew she found her calling… Outside Interests: Earned her Honours Bachelor of Science in 2013 from the University of Toronto… Enjoys writing, painting, reading, running, lifting heavy weights… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “You can’t take the sky from me”… On game days likes to wake up early and eat as much as the complementary hotel breakfast as she can… Always travels with a spare iPod because not having music for her warmup is her worst nightmare… Collects postcards and stickers from her competitions and puts the stickers on her chest plate…
