Antoine Cyr
Biography
Antoine Cyr had a history-making moment in his Olympic debut at Beijing 2022. He and Graham Ritchie finished fifth in the men’s team sprint for Canada’s best ever Olympic result in the event in classic technique. Cyr also raced in three individual events as well as the 4x10km relay.
Cyr made his debut at the senior FIS World Championships in 2021 where he was the top Canadian man in the skiathlon, sprint, and 50km mass start. Teamed with Ritchie, the duo raced to an impressive seventh-place finish in the team sprint and were part of Canada’s top-10 finish in the 4x10km relay.
Cyr had competed at three editions of the U23 World Championships in 2019, 2020 and 2021 after competing at the World Junior Championships in 2018. He made his World Cup debut in March 2019 when the World Cup Finals were held in Quebec City. He earned his first World Cup points in March 2021 when he finished 21st in the 15km classic mass start in Engadin, Switzerland. He posted a career-high individual World Cup result in November 2021 when he finished 11th in the 15km classic in Ruka, Finland.
Cyr finished first overall on the Nor-Am Cup circuit in 2020. His terrific campaign started with a silver in the 10km classic at the season opener in Canmore, his first ever podium on the circuit. Five days later in Gatineau, he kicked off a triple-medal weekend, which included his first Nor-Am Cup victory in the 10km freestyle. He won another victory in the 15km classic in Mont-Ste-Anne before the season came to an early end because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cyr had started competing in Nor-Am Cup events in 2016.
