Brenda Bowskill

Biography

An up-and-comer, Brenda Bowskill’s first major international competition was the 2010 Youth World Championships which further sparked her lifelong dream of representing Canada at the Olympic Games. A national team member since she was 18, she achieved a career highlight by qualifying for the 2015 Pan Am Games, where she finished eighth in the Laser Radial event.  Bowskill began working with new coach Chris Dold in December 2015. Among the highlights to follow were her second straight 15th place finish at the Miami World Cup. She also posted a career-best result at the Laser Radial world championships in April 2016, finishing 10th. Bowskill is a three-time winner (2013-15) of the Joanne Abbott Award as Ontario female sailor of the year.

Getting to Know…

Family: Mother Debbie Bowskill… Older sister Bridgit… Getting into the Sport: Started sailing at age 6… Her parents and grandparents owned boats on Lake Ontario that they lived on during summer months… Outside Interests: Enjoys yoga, watching TV on Netflix, movies, sightseeing, travelling… Completed two years of studies at Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Ryerson University… Chose to put school on hiatus for one year to focus on Rio 2016… Odds and Ends: Nickname: BB… Gets ready for race day by eating a big breakfast while watching TV on Netflix… Always travels with her teddy bear Cameron…
