Daniel Dearing

Biography

Daniel Dearing qualified to make his Olympic debut at Paris 2024 when he and partner Sam Schachter won the NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament in June 2024. Having teamed up in 2022, they qualified for that year’s FIVB World Championships and later won silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. They closed out the 2022 season by winning the NORCECA Beach Tour Final.

In September 2023, Schachter and Dearing earned their first Beach Pro Tour victory together, taking the title at the Futures event in Halifax.

Dearing made his international debut at the 2009 FIVB U19 World Championships where he competed alongside Garrett May. Though he spent the first few years of his senior career with May, Dearing actually debuted on the FIVB World Tour with current teammate Schachter at the Puerto Vallarta Open in May 2014. At the end of the 2015 season, Dearing would not appear in FIVB competition again until 2021 when he competed alongside Ivan Reka.

Dearing played indoor volleyball collegiately at York University but missed most of his freshman year in 2011-12 with a hand injury.

As a teenager in 2005, Dearing suffered from Osteomyelitis and the bone infection in his hip ended up in his blood stream, sending him into septic shock. He required lifesaving surgery and took more than eight months to recover physically.
