David Samayoa
Biography
Growing up with two older sisters and an older brother who all weightlifted, David Samayoa made it a constant goal to surpass each of them, one by one, year by year. He finally lifted more than his father, who had been a Guatemalan national champion in the 1980s, in 2012. Samayoa won back-t0-back Canadian titles in 2014 and 2015. He made his international debut at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
