Edward Ly
Biography
Before making his Olympic debut at Paris 2024, Edward Ly was a member of the Canadian men’s team that won silver at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. He also competed there in the men’s singles and doubles tournaments. Just a month earlier, Ly had helped Canada win silver in the men’s team event at the 2023 Pan American Championships, which qualified a full men’s team for Canada for Paris 2024. Ly was proud of his ability to deliver decisive performances, which allowed him to defeat higher-ranked players at key moments.
Ly previous multi-sport games experience included competing in the men’s team, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles tournaments at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Prior to that, he won three gold medals at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in men’s singles, men’s team, and mixed doubles.
Ly was a three-time medallist at the Pan American Junior Championships, taking bronze in boys’ singles and silver in mixed doubles in 2021, after winning bronze in boys’ team in 2019. He competed at his first ITTF World Team Championships in 2022, followed by his debut at the ITTF World Championships in 2023.
