Jillian Weir
Biography
Jillian Weir made her debut at a major international competition at the 2012 Junior World Championships in the shot put. After transitioning to hammer throw while at university, Weir made her first appearance with the senior national team at the 2017 World Athletics Championships. Earlier that year, she threw a personal best 72.50m at a meet in Tucson, Arizona.
In 2018, Weir competed at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. She went on to win her first Canadian title followed by a silver medal at the NACAC Championships in Toronto. In 2019 she posted an eighth-place finish at the Pan Am Games in Lima.
After not competing in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Weir threw a season high 72.29m in April 2021. She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 where her 19th-place finish was the second-best all-time by a Canadian woman in the hammer throw.
Weir competed collegiately for the University of Oregon where she was a two-time All-American. She won the 2014 PAC-12 Championships and finished a career best fourth at the NCAA Championships in 2015. While at Oregon, Weir represented Canada at the 2013 Universiade and 2014 NACAC U23 Championships, winning a silver medal at the latter.
