Biography

Josée Bélanger first represented Canada at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo where she helped Canada win a silver medal. She made her senior national team debut the following year at age 18. In 2004 she also helped Canada win gold at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship and competed at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Cup where Canada placed fifth. In 2010 she helped Canada win the CONCACAF Gold Cup, qualifying the country for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup but was unable to compete in Germany due to injury. Bélanger was key to Canada reaching the quarterfinals at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup on home soil when she scored the lone goal in Canada’s 1-0 win over Switzerland in the Round of 16. It was her first international goal since 2010. In 2016, Bélanger was part of Canada’s second place finish at the CONCACAF Olympic qualifier where the team earned a spot in Rio. She was also a member of the squad that won the 2016 Algarve Cup. Bélanger played professionally in the Swedish First Division with FC Rosengård in 2015.
