Karine Sergerie
Team Canada Medal Count
Biography
In her first Olympic appearance at Beijing 2008, Karine Sergerie claimed the silver medal in the 67kg weight class, giving her the best result by a Canadian in Olympic taekwondo history. She followed that up with a ninth place finish at London 2012.
Sergerie is the first Canadian to win a world title in taekwondo, which she did in 2007 competing in the 63kg class. Her world championship gold matched the gold she won at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. She has won three other world championship medals: silver in 2003 to go with bronzes in 2005 and 2011.
Suffering from chronic back pain and following several hip surgeries, Sergerie announced her retirement in May 2014.
