Kate Haber (Sauks)

Biography

Kate Haber (nee Sauks) began rowing while pursuing her PhD at the University of Toronto. As an undergrad student she had competed for the Varsity Blues track and field team in pole vault and pentathlon. But injuries while in grad school made her decide to move on, so she joined the varsity rowing and Nordic ski teams. Among her fondest rowing memories is winning an OUA Championship in the lightweight double sculls with her younger sister Jennifer. In 2015, Haber won gold in the lightweight double sculls at the Pan Am Games in Toronto with Liz Fenje. She moved into the lightweight single sculls in 2016, winning bronze at the World Rowing Championships after taking silver at the first World Cup of the season.

Getting into the Sport: Started rowing in 2009 after her sister suggested it… Her first impression was “Wow, tippy!”… Outside Interests: Earned her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences and Anatomy at the University of Toronto in 2014… Would like to pursue a career as an Anatomy Professor… Enjoys reading, nutrition, promoting sport and movement to kids and families… First athletic pursuit was ballet… Odds and Ends: Favourite quote: “An individual is an expert in his/her field once they have made all of the mistakes and have figured out how to overcome them” – her mom…
