Laurence St-Germain
Biography
Laurence St-Germain made her Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018 where she finished 15th in the slalom. In the 2018-19 season that followed, she broke into the top-10 for the first time on the World Cup circuit, finishing 10th in the slalom in Semmering, Austria in December. She improved her personal best to sixth place, achieved in a city event in Stockholm in February 2019.
It was also in 2019 that St-Germain made her debut at the FIS World Championships where she finished sixth in the slalom, ranking her as the top Canadian woman in the event. The following season, she earned her first individual top-five result on the World Cup circuit, placing fifth in a parallel slalom event in St. Moritz in December 2019.
St-Germain had her most consistent World Cup season in 2020-21 when she finished eighth in the overall World Cup slalom standings. She posted four top-10 results in slalom, including a career-best sixth place in the event. She finished 17th in the slalom in her second appearance at the world championships. She matched that 17th place finish during her second Olympic appearance at Beijing 2022.
In her World Cup debut in November 2015, St-Germain broke into the top-30 in the slalom in Aspen, Colorado. St-Germain had joined the Canadian Alpine Ski Team for the 2015-16 season after finishing the previous year ranked fourth in the Nor-Am Cup slalom standings. She finished both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 season ranked second in the Nor-Am Cup slalom standings.
At the same time she was representing Canada internationally, St-Germain was also competing collegiately for the University of Vermont. As a freshman in 2015, she finished 10th in the slalom at the NCAA Championships and was named a Second Team All-American. In her sophomore year, she was the runner-up in the slalom at the NCAA Championships to earn First Team All-American honours. After redshirting in 2017-18 to focus on Olympic qualification, she returned for her senior year in 2018-19 and became the first skier in school history (and just the sixth woman ever) to sweep the slalom and giant slalom titles at the NCAA Championships. The Catamounts finished second overall in the team standings.
