Max Moffatt grabs his ski while performing a mid air trick

Max Moffatt

In what should have been his first season with the national team in 2014-15, Max Moffatt tore the meniscus in his right knee and underwent season-ending surgery. He pushed through eight months of rehab to make a triumphant return in 2015-16, winning the overall Nor-Am Cup title for slopestyle.

Moffatt competed in his first World Cup events in the second half of the 2016-17 season before becoming a fulltime World Cup team member in 2017-18. He had a major breakthrough in January 2019 when he won slopestyle gold at the World Cup in Seiser Alm, Italy. He had never finished in the top-five before on the circuit. That helped him finish the 2018-19 season ranked second overall in the World Cup slopestyle standings.

Moffatt returned to the World Cup podium in November 2021 when he won slopestyle silver in Stubai, Austria. About a month earlier, he had earned his career-best World Cup result in big air when he finished fifth in Chur, Switzerland.

Moffatt competed in his first FIS World Championships at any level in 2021. In 2022, he won his first career medal at the X Games in Aspen, taking silver in slopestyle. At the Dew Tour in December 2021, Moffatt won best trick in the non-Olympic ski streetstyle event, pulling out a misty six off the cannon as he finished third overall in the event. In his Olympic debut at Beijing 2022, Moffatt qualified for the slopestyle final.
