Ryan Boland



Ryan Boland is one of several players who joined the national team in 2011. He went 5-for-8 (.625 batting average) to help Canada win gold at the 2012 Pan American Championship and followed that up by hitting .333 at the 2013 ISF Men’s World Championship. He had a homerun and five runs batted in at each of those two major events. Boland began playing softball with the Goulds Minor Softball Association before joining 3 Cheers Pub for five Canadian Championships (2010-14), winning three gold, one silver and one bronze.  He was named tournament all-star at catcher in four of those five years.


Family: Parents David and Janet Boland… Younger brother Shane also plays softball competitively and won silver at the 2008 World Junior Championships…  Wife Stephanie Boland… Getting into the Sport: Started playing softball at age 4… Has wanted to play for Canada since watching his father play at the Canadian Senior Championships… His father was his first coach and is still his role model… Outside Interests: Has a degree in Mechanical Engineering with an Offshore Oil and Gas option… Enjoys ice hockey and ball hockey… Works as a Subsea Professional Engineer in Newfoundland and Labrador… Odds and Ends: Nickname: Boley… Favourite motto: “The most dangerous phrase in the language is we’ve always done it this way”…
