Sami Hill

Biography

Sami Hill competed in her first FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2022 and helped Canada to a fourth-place finish, the team’s best result at the tournament since 1986. 

Hill was an alternate to the Olympic team for Tokyo 2020 after having contributed to the team’s success at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. She was helped Canada qualify for Paris 2024. 

Hill has represented Canada at two previous multi-sport Games. She was part of Canada’s sixth-place finish at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games after leading Canada to a silver medal at the 2015 Universiade. 

Hill won gold in her first tournament with the senior national team, the 2017 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. She has since competed at three more AmeriCups, winning silver in 2019 and bronze in 2023. 

Hill first played for Canada at the 2012 U18 FIBA Americas Championship. The team made the semifinals, qualifying them for the FIBA U19 World Championship the following year. At the 2013 U19 Worlds, Canada made the quarterfinals. 

Hill played collegiately at Virginia Tech, helping the Hokies to their first winning season in 10 years as a junior in 2016. As a senior in 2017 she was named to the All-ACC Academic Team.

Upon turning pro in 2017 Hill joined Donau-Ries of the German DBBL. She played there for three seasons (2018-20) before joining Nantes Rezé Basket in France (2021-23) and most recently Araski AES in Spain (2024).
