Stephen Mullaley
Biography
Stephen Mullaley has been a member of Team Canada since 2007, which includes two appearances at the ISF Men’s World Championship in 2009 (when Canada won bronze) and 2013. He was a key part of the team that won gold at the 2012 Pan American Championship, hitting three homeruns and driving in eight runs. For the last five seasons Mullaley has been vital to 3 Cheers Pub’s success at the senior men’s Canadian Championships, including three straight gold medals. Mullaley is one of Canada’s most decorated athletes with four all-star team selections (2002, 2007, 2012, 2013), three Top Batter awards (2004, 2006, 2012), two Most Valuable Player of the Qualifying Round awards (2007, 2011) and one Top Player of the Championship Round award (2012).
PERSONAL
Family: Parents Fintan and Yvonne Mullaley… Younger sisters Erin (former co-captain of Memorial University basketball team) and Vicky… Cousin Sarah Davis won silver with Canada at the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship… Getting into the Sport: Started playing softball at age 5 because his father played and so did all his friends in the summer… Wanted to play for Canada after attending a Canada Games ID camp in St. John’s when he was 15; the guest coach was Team Canada outfielder Colin Abbott who talked about his experiences and opportunities as well as the satisfaction of reaching the highest level in the sport… In 2002 he made a pact with Jason Hill that they would play together on Team Canada… During university they played in the US during the summer to compete in higher level games and get noticed by Team Canada coaches… Outside Interests: Graduated from Memorial University… Enjoys playing hockey, socializing with friends, traveling, visiting family in Newfoundland and PEI… Runs Team 1st Hitting clinics with Canadian teammate Jeff Ellsworth… Works as the Director of Regional Sales at First Ontario Credit Union… Odds and Ends: Biggest role models have been Canadian teammates Ryan Wolfe and Jeff Ellsworth… Wears a good luck chain during games that has a tag with his hometown ‘Freshwater’ engraved on it… Always travels with some Newfoundland music… Nickname: Lolly…
