Biographie

  • Won silver medals in men’s doubles and mixed doubles at the 2023 Pan American Championships with Kevin Lee and Josephine Wu, respectively 
  • In 2022, he had won mixed doubles gold with Wu at the Pan Am Championships where he and Lee also won men’s doubles bronze 
  • Won his first gold medal at the Pan Am Championships in 2018 when he and Wu won the mixed doubles; it was his first senior international title  
  • Won his first medal at the Pan Am Championships in 2017 when he won silver in men’s doubles with Austin Bauer 
  • Competed at his first BWF World Championships in 2023 
  • Represented Canada at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games 
  • Among his career highlights are gold medals in men’s doubles and mixed doubles at the 2021 Guatemala International Series with Lee and Wu, respectively 
  • Achieved a career-best result at a BWF World Tour event in 2023, reaching the mixed doubles quarterfinals at the US Open

Getting into the Sport: Followed his older sister, May-Lee, into the sport; she represented Canada internationally at the junior level… Competed in his first provincial tournament when he was 8… Watching current mixed doubles partner Josephine Wu compete at Tokyo 2020 made him believe he could pursue badminton at that high level… Outside Interests: Enjoys playing games on his phone, watching TV and eSports, solving Rubiks cubes… Earned his Masters of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering Management from the University of Alberta in 2021… Odds and Ends: Collects fridge magnets from every place he competes, creating a chronological roadmap of his travels in his kitchen… Favourite quote: “There is no way around the hard work, embrace it” -Roger Federer…
