Apollo Hess
Biography
Apollo Hess was named to the Paris 2024 Olympic team after placing second in the men’s 100m breaststroke at the 2024 Olympic Swimming Trials.
While competing for the University of Lethbridge, Hess won five medals at the 2022 U SPORTS Championships. With his silver medal in the 100m breaststroke, he was the Pronghorns’ first medallist at the U SPORTS championships since 2005. He went on to win gold in the 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke, breaking the U SPORTS record and Canadian short course record in the latter. Hess was named the U SPORTS Rookie of the Year. He followed up by finishing third in the 200m breaststroke at the 2022 Canadian Swimming Trials.
In 2023, Hess finished third in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events at the U SPORTS Championships. He later left the school to move to Toronto to train at the High Performance Centre – Ontario.
