Eric Peters

Biography

Eric Peters made history with his stunning silver medal in men’s individual recurve at the 2023 World Archery Championships – Canada’s best ever result in the event. It secured an Olympic quota spot for Canada, which Peters later earned for himself, ensuring he would make his Olympic debut at Paris 2024.

In June 2024, Peters matched his career best result at an Archery World Cup event, finishing fifth in Antalya, Türkiye after losing to three-time world champion Woojin Kim of South Korea in the quarterfinals. The performance moved him up to a career-high world ranking of fifth (as of July 18, 2024).

Peters first finished fifth at an Archery World Cup in Antalya in April 2023. At the Archery World Cup in August 2023 that served as the Olympic test event for Paris 2024, Peters also reached the quarterfinals, finishing seventh overall. He had competed in his first career Archery World Cup in 2019.

Peters was a double medallist at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. He brought home bronze in men’s individual recurve after upsetting world record holder and reigning world champion Brady Ellison of the USA in the quarterfinals, before losing to his teammate and eventual champion Crispin Duenas in the semifinals. He also won gold in men’s team recurve with Duenas and Brian Maxwell. In his second Pan Am Games at Santiago 2023, Peters finished ninth individually, sixth in mixed team with Virginie Chénier, and seventh in men’s team.

At the 2024 Pan American Championships, Peters, along with Duenas and Devaang Gupta, advanced to the gold medal final in men’s team and narrowly missed out on securing a team quota spot for Paris 2024, losing the match 5-4 to bring home silver. He also captured a bronze medal in mixed team with Chénier and finished ninth individually.

Peters made his international debut at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games where he won bronze in the international mixed team event and finished 17th in the individual competition. He competed at his first World Archery Championships in 2019 where he posted his then-best score of 683 out of 720 in the qualification round (he bettered this result in 2024 with a 688).
