Ingrid Wilm
Biography
Ingrid Wilm won her first individual medals at the World Aquatics Championships in 2024, taking bronze in both the women’s 50m and 100m backstroke events in the city where she began competitive swimming, Doha, Qatar. She also swam in the final of the women’s 4x100m medley relay, helping Canada win a third straight bronze medal in the event.
Wilm debuted at the World Aquatics Championships in 2022. She finished fourth in the 50m backstroke and raced in the preliminaries of the women’s 4x100m medley relay that won bronze. She was also a prelim swimmer for the bronze medal-winning women’s 4x100m medley relay at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, where she reached the finals of the 50m and 100m backstroke events.
Wilm qualified to make her Olympic debut at Paris 2024 after finishing second in the 100m backstroke at the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials. Three years earlier, she had missed qualifying for Tokyo 2020 by one spot.
Wilm was a three-time bronze medallist at the short course World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2022, highlighted by her performance in the 100m backstroke. On the three-stop short course World Cup circuit in the fall of 2022, Wilm won two silver and five bronze in backstroke events. She earned six more World Cup medals (three 50m backstroke silver, three 100m backstroke bronze) in the fall of 2023 when it became a long course circuit.
Wilm competed at her first national trials in 2013 when she was just 14 years old. That same year, she competed at the Canada Games, finishing fourth in the 50m backstroke. She represented Canada internationally for the first time at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
Wilm competed collegiately for the University of British Columbia where she was the 2017 U Sports Female Rookie Swimmer of the Year. In her freshman season, she won two gold and four silver medals at the U Sports Championships, helping the Thunderbirds set a Canadian record in the 4x100m medley relay. While swimming at UBC, Wilm represented Canada at the 2019 Universiade, winning a bronze medal in the 4x100m medley relay.
