Biography

Johnathan Cabral has been dreaming of competing in the Olympic Games since he was four and first learned and saw what they were all about. In his Olympic debut at Rio 2016, Cabral surprised many by advancing to the 110m hurdles final where he finished sixth. A dual citizen, he represented the United States at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships. In his first year at the University of Oregon, Cabral was named Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year in 2011-12 after a superb rookie season that included a win at the Pac-12 Championships and appearances at the NCAA Championships and US Olympic Trials. In 2012-13 he was a first team All-American after finishing fifth in the 110m hurdles at the NCAA Championships. Cabral ran a personal best 13.37 seconds to finish second in the 110m hurdles at the 2015 Canadian Championships. He then advanced to the final at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. Later in the summer he matched his PB while running in the semifinals at his first IAAF World Championships. He lowered his personal best to 13.34 seconds in July 2018 at a meet in Switzerland.
